The CALM Care workshop is a half-day program that teaches four key actions: Connect, Ask, Refer, and Exit to build awareness, reduce stigma, and enable help seeking behaviour. The T4T is effectively delivered over a 2-day period face-to-face or virtually. This ensures that all participants are provided with the knowledge and resources to help their participants to be aware when somebody may be thinking suicide; how to start a conversation in a comfortable and safe manner; and help the person to link into an appropriate referral.

Day 1 – The half-day program will be delivered in its entirety by accredited trainers to provide an overview of the program. This will be followed in the afternoon with several interactive exercises that will strengthen and enhance your knowledge and skills for each component of the program.

Day 2 – Each participant will have the opportunity to practice and present a section of the program to ensure they have understood the intent and delivery method of the CALM Care model as well as enabling them to gain confidence in their presentation styles.

What do T4T participants receive?

T4T participants receive a certificate of accreditation as a CALM Care trainer, a full kit of resources to equip them for their training role, including: – a comprehensive Trainers Manual, a PowerPoint presentation with trainer notes, full access to the CALM Care app, videos, bookings spreadsheet, attendance templates, evaluation survey form, certificate templates, ice breaker cards, email template, and promotional material.

The CALM Yarn workshop is a one-day program that teaches four key actions: Connect, Ask, Listen, and Monitor. CALM Yarn helps participants recognise the five signs of suicide, how to make a connection, hold the space and listen deeply, develop a plan for safety, and link to culturally appropriate supports. It’s intended audience is those in our community that identify or work with people who are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The T4T is effectively delivered over a 3-day period face-to-face. Participants will be able to draw upon the collaboration between CALM and Jumbunna; understand suicide and the unique factors that impact on the significant impact of suicide in our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities; gain the confidence and knowledge on how to train in Indigenous communities to ensure we are culturally aware, and trauma informed at all times.  They will also become confident and be able to demonstrate their ability to explain and use the CALM Yarn model of intervention.

Day 1 – CALM Yarn will be delivered in its entirety by accredited trainers, at least one of whom will identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, to provide a comprehensive overview from a participant’s perspective.

Day 2 – Each part of the training will be explained in full covering the evidence and history that underpins and informs the CALM Yarn Model of intervention, with numerous interactive activities and videos to ensure active learning.

Day 3 – Each participant will have the opportunity to practice and present a section of the program to ensure they have understood the intent and delivery method of the CALM Yarn model as well as enabling them to gain confidence in their presentation styles.

What do T4T participants receive?

T4T participants receive a certificate of accreditation as a CALM Yarn trainer, a full kit of resources to equip them for their training role, including: – a comprehensive Trainers Manual, PowerPoint Trainer notes, full access to three apps (Be Safe, Be Calm and Calm Care), a USB with the PowerPoint presentation, video demonstrations, role-play scenarios, bookings spreadsheet, attendance template, evaluation survey form, certificate template, ice breaker cards, safety plan template, burn-out scale, email template with pre-reading material, and promotional materials.

Participants will need to identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or have connections with community and be able to have a community champion support them in their delivery.
